Islands have a magic all of their own. Caldey, home to a monastic community for more than 1500 years, lies a mile out to sea from the ancient walled town of Tenby and provides the focus of our time in Pembrokeshire; we will see it as we walk the coastal path and visit by motor boat. We feel the pull of the island wherever we go. Tenby with its picturesque harbour, provides the perfect base for our holiday.

Walks and Excursions

The Pembrokeshire coastal path offers a great variety of scenery (rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries) with many walk possibilities. We plan three such walks:

Tenby to the coastal village of Manorbier, complete with castle and Norman Church. A walk of 8 miles and graded Long/Moderate;

Tenby to Saundersfoot 5 miles and graded Medium/Moderate. Again, a coastal walk with magnificent views all the way;

Stackpole Quay (the smallest in Britain) to Barafundle Bay (placed among the top 10 beaches in the world) and on along the coast. 3 miles and graded Short/Moderate.

We also visit St Govan's Cliffside Chapel and in Tenby enjoy an evening Prayer Walk from St Julian's, the Fisherman's Chapel. There will be time too, to browse the many small shops, wander the narrow streets and if you wish go for a swim or simply sit on the beach!

From Tenby harbour we travel out to Caldey Island, where we will be able to explore the little village, early Churches, join the monks at their mid-day service and walk to the outlying places of interest in the footsteps of pilgrims stretching back to who knows when...

Accommodation

We have seven nights in our own house, situated in a quiet area, just two minutes' walk from Tenby's ancient town walls. We will be catering for ourselves and we will discuss the menu closer to the time. Rooms are single, twin and double. If booking a twin or double please note on the booking form who you will be sharing with.

Getting there

Please arrive at our accommodation sometime after 4 p.m. on the 11th. Our evening meal will be at 6.30. The railway station is a short distance from our house. Long-stay car parking is available.
