Date

Spring 2024 - tbc

Gather

10.30am

Return

2.30pm

Starting Point

Longshaw Estate café S11 7TZ

Description

The wet weather in October and November have made the paths too muddy, so we have postponed this walk until Spring 2024.

Our five mile walk starts at Longshaw Estate (meet at the café) and takes in stunning views, moorland, ancient woodland and rocky outcrops. We will climb Higger Tor (weather permitting), where we will be rewarded with spectacular views across Burbage Moor, the Iron Age fortress of Carl Wark, and the huge boulder known as Mother Cap, which sits on the back of Owler Tor. The views are expansive, giving a wonderful sense of God's creation, and we will take time to appreciate it with prayers and reflections.

It is an intermediate walk, so good fitness is required. The paths are easily accessible, although it can become boggy around Burbage Bridge, so suitable footwear is recommended. Feel free to bring a hot drink and a packed lunch. We can also thoroughly recommend Longshaw's café for coffee and cake post-walk!

Use S11 7TZ to find Longshaw, then please use the brown signs to the car park. There is a very sharp bend opposite the Fox House pub, so please take care. Parking is free for National Trust members - don't forget your National Trust card!
