Description
The Eden Way is a new pilgrimage route in Devon, named after The Garden of Eden because it too, is a beautiful place of encounter with God.
This is Day 2 of the `Eden Way,' a two day circular walk in the Teign Valley. We are offering each day as a separate and independent day walk - However, why not combine them both (Saturday 28th June Part 1 and this, Sunday 29th June Part 2) to create a wonderful weekend of pilgrimage?! For walkers who don't live in the area but wish to complete the weekend of walking, accommodation must be booked independently.
The Eden Way travels through the 6 parishes of the Teign Valley and visits its 6 magnificent churches, each a Grade 1 listed building. In this section of the route we will be warmly welcomed with plenty of tea and cakes at the churches we visit and take time for prayer and a little history of the building.
THIS WALK IS DAY 2 . We begin at St Michael's Church in Doddiscombsleigh and walk 8.5 miles to Dunsford. This is an interesting route in Devon's beautiful countryside, with plenty of far-reaching views as well as wooded lanes. It passes the Belvedere Tower, where we will make a short detour to walk around this impressive triangular castle, built in 1788 by Sir Robert Palk. Its location on the ridge of the Haldon Hills gives it panoramic views over the Exe, the Teign Valley and the verdant pastures below. The route is on wooded footpaths, across fields and along quiet country lanes. It is a wonderful opportunity to walk in the spirit of pilgrimage and celebrate the abundance of God’s creation.
We will walk at a gentle pace with time to pause, watch the wildlife, take in the beautiful countryside and reflect. The walking is moderate. The distance is 8.5 miles. As this is a linear walk, transport back to the start of the walk will be organised for you.
Please bring a packed lunch and drinking water, waterproofs in case of rain and sunscreen if it's sunny. Strong walking shoes are essential, as the paths include rough gound, woodland tracks and areas that could be muddy if it's wet.
This event is free, however a small donation at any of the churches on route would be most appreciated. Tickets can be obtained at Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-eden-way-devon-a-weekend-of-pilgrimage-part-2-tickets-1382863264249?aff=oddtdtcreator
