Description
The Eden Way is a new pilgrimage route in Devon, named after The Garden of Eden because it too is a beautiful place of encounter with God
The route combines the rugged hills of Dartmoor with rich farmland and the wooded banks of the river Teign. Come and experience the contrasts: wild and cultivated, bleak and densely foliaged, craggy quarries and gentle fields grazed by sheep and cattle - an ideal place for a pilgrimage to explore and celebrate the abundance of God’s creation..
The Eden Way is a two day circular walk created by the Teign Valley and Halden Mission Community in partnership with Devon Pilgrim. Journeying are offering each day as a separate and independent day walk. However, why not combine them both (Saturday 28th June and Sunday 29th June) to create a wonderful weekend of pilgrimage?! For walkers who don't live in the area but wish to complete the weekend of walking, accommodation must be booked independently.
The circular route travels through the 6 parishes of the the Teign Valley and visits its 6 magnificent churches, each a Grade 1 listed building. At each we will be warmly welcomed with plenty of tea and cakes. We will walk at a gentle pace with time to pause, watch the wildlife, take in the beautiful countryside and reflect.
THIS WALK IS DAY 1. We begin at St Mary's in Dunsford end at Doddiscombsleigh and walk 9.8 miles in total. It's a lovely walk along wooded footpaths and beside tumbling brooks. It offers us spectacular views across the undulating farmland and is a delightful mixture of country lanes, and footpaths. After a steep climb at the start of the walk, the walking is then moderate. Total milage for this day is 9.8 miles.
As this is a linear walk, transport back to the start of the walk will be organised for you.
Please bring a packed lunch and drinking water, waterproofs in case of rain and sunscreen if it's sunny. Strong walking shoes are essential, as the paths include rough gound, woodland tracks and areas that could be muddy if it's wet.
