Description

Join us on this most special day - St David's Day - with this free 6 mile pilgrimage from Porthclais via St Nons along the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast Path and then into the City of St Davids, ending with pilgrim prayers at the shrine of St David in the beautiful cathedral named after the patron saint of Wales.

We meet at the National Trust car park at Porthclais harbour where we visit the hidden well where St David was ordained as bishop back in the 6th centrury. Then we walk along the coast path with dramatic views across the Irish Sea. We arrive at St Non's - the birth place of St David where there is a holy well and a Celtic chapel within a stone circle. Many would say this has been the spiritual heart of Wales even pre-dating Christianity. The Dean of St Davids will then annoint or more accurately shower us with water from the holy well before we join other pilgrims to process, singing hymns and songs along the way, with Wales living up to its reputation as the land of song. We then arrive at Oriel y Parc, the National Park visitor centre. In front of the centre is a large capstone. If the sun is out and only on this day only every year, the sunlight will reflect through an opening in the stone to pinpoint a poem to St David.

Then we walk into the smallest city in Britain where the Bishop of St Davids will bless the city in Cross Square before we head down to the cathedral where we end the pilgrimage with pilgrim prayers at the shrine of St David.

Taking part in this centuries-old pilgrimage with a modern twist is an experience like no other in Britain. Its mix of history, culture and colourful spectacle is not to be missed.

If you are travelling from afar there is plenty of accommodation in St Davids from cozy B&Bs through the a new Premier Inn and the lovely St Davids Cross hotel on Cross Square. To book your place please click on our Eventbrite page here
