Advent in the Valley: Brockweir, Tintern and the Wye Valley Day Walk

On a cold December morning 6 people and 2 dogs gathered for a 7 mile walk from the old railway station at Tintern, through the village of Brockweir and up onto part of Offa's Dyke. This was a new walk for Journeying so the map needed to be consulted a couple of times, but there were some splendid views to be had when we reached the high ground. However, what goes up must come down! The descent to the River Wye was interesting, as there were a lot of fallen leaves on the ground which had frozen, but with care and walking poles we all reached the bottom safely.
An ideal spot for lunch was found under a tree, with several large boulders on which to sit, and the sun came out for a while too. After hearing an Advent poem we continued on our way in silence for a short while, reflecting on what the readings along the Way meant to us and enjoying the beautiful, peaceful surroundings of the Wye Valley.
We then followed the fast flowing river back, arriving at the station café in time for a hot drink and a Welsh cake or two! Although it had been a cold day, our winter clothing, exercise and companionship ensured that we had a very good, enjoyable time together.
