Tintern Abbey and Wye Valley Day Walk, 17th September

On a glorious September morning 7 people and 2 dogs gathered for a walk from Tintern Abbey through the Wye Valley. The route taken was not our usual one as a footbridge over the river was closed for repair work, but we were still able to make our way through the village of Brockweir, stopping at the Moravian church en route, then continuing up into the woodland.

Along the Way we stopped for a reflective reading and a poem, the stillness only being broken by the singing of a bird in the trees above us. Our lunch was eaten in a sunlit field, watched from afar by some sheep. We then continued climbing up to the Devil's Pulpit, but none of us were brave enough to stand out on the ledge overlooking the valley as one young man was doing, instead preferring to admire the view from a few steps back!

We then made our descent following a newly found footpath, which took some careful negotiating at times, until we were all safely back down and retracing our steps towards the Abbey. A stop for refreshments outside the converted Tintern railway station was very welcome, before finally arriving back at the car park. A visit to the Abbey gift shop to redeem our parking costs was then made, followed by final goodbyes to friends old and new. It had been a good day!
