Description

Set magnificently in the picturesque Vale of Ewyas, close to the Black Mountains, the evocative ruins of Llanthony Priory mark the beginning and end of our 8 mile walk to Capel y Ffin (meaning the chapel at the end of the valley). After meeting we walk up onto Offa's Dyke path with sweeping views up the valley and east towards Hereford. We walk above Vision Farm where a vision of the Virgin Mary was seen by local farm boys in 1880. We then walk towards Gospel Pass and the tiny wooden chapel at Capel y Ffin that was once at the heart of the Arts and Crafts movement in Wales from its nearby base in another Abbey renovated by the enigmatic Fr Ignatius in 1870. Please bring a packed lunch. Dogs welcome. Also, if you want to make a weekend out of it you can separately book to stay at the charming Llanthony Abbey Hotel, built into the ruins of the Priory itself.
